About This Cause
Founded on the summit of Mount Hood in 1894, Mazamas is a non-profit mountaineering education organization based in Portland, Oregon. With nearly 3,000 members and 250 active volunteers, Mazamas offers more than 900 hikes and 250 alpine climbs annually, as well as classes in snow and ice climbing, Nordic skiing, first aid, and more. Operating out of the Mazama Mountaineering Center in southeast Portland, Mazamas also owns a multi-purpose lodge based in Government Camp. The Mazamas operating budget is $750,000.
