About This Cause
Boys & Girls Clubs provides wrap around after school programming to help youth achieve academic success, create healthy lifestyles, and become caring and committed community members.
"The Wattles Boys & Girls Club has made me who I am today. When I entered high school, I didn't think I'd go to college. Now I'm a senior and I've been accepted to two four-year universities."
-Bryan, 2015 Oregon Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Club
Boys & Girls Club of Portland Metro has been on the forefront of providing youth development programs for the youth of Portland since 1946. In the nearly seventy years of service to youth, the focus of the organization has remained the same- providing a powerful Club experience that enables youth to successfully maneuver the obstacles in their lives and prepare them for a lifetime of success as adults equipped to make a difference in society.
"I have never been more proud of Nathan... I am humbled by the person/man he has become and I know the Club had a role in forming this wonderful person. I have tears in my eyes as I write this to you. Please pass on to all involved to what an impact this had on my family. There are not enough words to express my gratitude."
-Laura Pride, mother of Nathan, the 2014 Meyer Memorial Club Youth of the Year
Youth have access to a wide variety of programs that build character, enhance education, cultivate creativity, encourage fitness and teamwork, and teach important life skills.
"I have gained invaluable leadership skills during my time in the Keystone Club program, and through this experience, I now see myself as a leader to my peers and younger kids at the Club and in the community."
-Nehemiah, Youth of the Year candidate for Boys & Girls Club of Portland
