About This Cause

There is a profound unmet need in Oregon for safe, stable, and well-supported foster homes with layered services for young people in the child welfare system that provide the individualized support needed to improve life outcomes. Youth in the foster care system who are referred to Youth Progress have suffered severe trauma that impacts their likelihood of being successful in school and life. They are at a substantially greater risk for homelessness, addiction, unemployment, and incarceration as they transition out of the child welfare system. The Community Collective is our culturally-responsive, community-based proctor foster care program. This program works to stabilize all genders of young people within their community with the long-term goal toward family reunification or independent living. The program consists of BRS Proctor Care and BRS Community Step Down placements and services for young people. The Learning Center is a fully accredited year-round, trauma-informed, culturally responsive program designed to meet the individualized academic, social, emotional, therapetuic, and recreational needs for students ages 13 - 25 in foster care. We understand that youth need safe relationships with supportive adults in order to heal and grow, which is why we provide therapeutic support in and around the learning environment. This type of support includes addressing trauma, attachment, social and emotional safety, health coping skills, and permanency. The Learning Center is a fully accredited alternative pathways to graduation program operated through Portland Public Schools. We offer credit recovery, modified diploma paths, and GED services, with a focus on individual support. The College and Career Attainment Program (CCAP) provides culturally responsive services through proctor foster home placements and our Career Center. The program focuses on successful transition into the community, essential skills development, job readiness training, college and career planning, budgeting and money management, and independent living skill development in order to promote a successful transition to adulthood. The program also includes Individual Development Accounts and RentWell Classes. The program serves youth ages 17 - 25 in the care and custody of the Oregon Youth Authority. The Alba Collaborative is a partnership between New Avenues for Youth and Youth Progress Association. This collaboration is part of the Youth Stabilization and Homeless Prevention Services. The Alba Collaborative is an innovative, culturally responsive partnership that provides prevention, early intervention, and 24/7/365 crisis line and supportive services to youth ages 9-17 who are at risk of or experiencing housing instability. The program offers community and site-based case management, family mediation, and reunification support, in-reach to schools and response to law enforcement, crisis intervention, and short-term emergency housing, basic needs and transportation, client assistance, resource referral, and navigation.
