Founded in 1969, SOLVE brings Oregonians together to improve our environment and build a legacy of stewardship.
About This Cause
Every year, SOLVE mobilizes over 20,000 volunteers and organizes over 1,000 cleanup and restoration projects to keep Oregon clean, safe, and beautiful for people and for wildlife. Last year (2022), we picked up 775,000 pounds of garbage throughout our region, primarily in Oregon, ensuring safer streets and a healthier environment. SOLVE brings together individuals, business groups, and service and conservation groups through volunteering and education to restore our natural spaces and take good care of this great state of which we are all so proud. Projects focus on beach and public space cleanups, illegal dump cleanups, native tree/shrub planting, removing invasive plants, and other environmental maintenance projects. We also provide free volunteer leadership training and opportunities for further community connection year-round. The organization originally called S.O.L.V. (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism) was created by Governor Tom McCall and other community leaders in 1969 to address the need for community action in the ever-growing state.
