Mission Statement

Friends of Timberline is dedicated to the preservation of Timberline Lodge a WPA masterpiece and National Historic Landmark on Mt. Hood, Oregon

About This Cause

Founded in 1975, FOT is dedicated to preserving Timberline Lodge and honoring the WPA craftspeople who built it in 1936/37. The Lodge sits at 6000 feet elevation on Mt. Hood. It is both a ski and non ski year round destination visited by over 2 million people from all over the world. Friends of Timberline takes on projects to maintain the historical integrity of the building, furnishings, crafts and art. Our projects range from textiles to rebuilding the historic and abandoned Amphitheater (a site now of a music festival and many weddings), lighting the WPA art collection within the Lodge, building a state of the art new winter entrance to landscaping. We are a membership and volunteer based organization. Our projects are funded by individual and foundation grants as well as many direct fundraising events, retail sales items and unsolicited support for the work we do. We have a board of directors and one employee. Our overhead is very low. The board is very involved in every project and meets 12 months a year at least. Project managers always are board members.
