Mission Statement
Mission: The mission of CODA, Inc. is to treat people whose health and quality of life are compromised by alcohol, drugs and mental health challenges. We do so through patient-centered care, partnerships with other healthcare providers and community partners, and through advocacy for effective public policy.
About This Cause
Established in 1969 as a state agency, CODA became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit agency in 1979. Today with 15 programs in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties, CODA is a dynamic, community-focused agency committed to forging new and creative ways to address alcohol and drug dependency as well as mental health issues for the most vulnerable residents of our community. CODA has developed and implements comprehensive treatment programming that includes detoxification, residential and outpatient services, medication-assisted treatment, and supportive and transitional housing. CODA programs and activities are designed to respond to addiction as a public health issue from which people can, and do, recover. CODA brought medically-assisted treatment (MAT) to the state, opening the first methadone clinic in 1969; we operate Oregon's largest Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). CODA maintains a research department, which informs operations decisions, strategic planning, program changes, and patient needs; leadership in research recommends best practices, so we stay on the forefront of medically-assisted treatment. As an organization, we have a continuum of many levels of care; we meet patients' needs as they enter, then they can move to different levels of care within our system. This continuity is unusual. CODA pioneered programming in Oregon designed especially for women and children, and mothers with substance use disorders. Stepping Stones housing is a unique situation for women involved in Child Welfare Services and involved in the reunification process. Project Nurture now serves pregnant women who receive medication-assisted treatment for opioid-use disorder. This partnership with OHSU Family Medicine Clinic and HealthShare allows all of our agencies to maximize our resources and expertise to serve women and children. Partnerships are included in our mission and a critical part in our goal is to be both specific and comprehensive. Patients' recovery goals are built to help individuals connect to their community. Through our work with partners in government and private agencies, we helped them to understand us better and add to the community services and strengths to set up our patients in recovery without stigma.
