Our mission is to conserve and steward Oregon's wetlands in partnership with communities.
About This Cause
Why wetlands? Because life requires clean water. We have one limited supply of water for all of our needs and only one ecosystem that filters, stores, and naturally protects it: wetlands. Whether it's for drinking, agriculture, manufacturing, salmon, or recreation, we need wetlands, and wetlands need us. With Oregon's future looking drier, hotter, and more populous, wetland conservation is more urgent than ever. Wetlands are critical to everything Oregonian: rain, fog, beavers, salmon, our natural heritage and agricultural abundance. They're important for carbon sequestration, sufficient clean water, healthy fish and wildlife populations, and human enjoyment. And yet they remain misunderstood. As a result, wetland are overlooked at best and threatened at worst. Wetlands need someone to protect them, to speak up for their interests, and to activate people across the region to learn about, love, and take care of their wetlands. That someone is The Wetlands Conservancy. In our idea future, Oregon's wetlands thrive. They are protected across the state, people understand their function and value, and the benefits of wetlands are equitably shared by all Oregonians. To realize this vision, The Wetlands Conservancy works collaboratively with communities across the state to: * Protect wetlands directly through a range of conservation strategies. * Build awareness of the value of wetlands through education, outreach, and experiences. * Catalyze action by members of the public through community science. * Push for sound conservation policy and funding to protect wetlands.
