Mission Statement

The mission of the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC)-Oregon is to promote social justice by eliminating sexual violence in our community through education, support & advocacy. SARC's free and confidential services are available to survivors of sexual assault whether or not they have reported to law enforcement and no matter how much time has passed since the assault. Survivors’ friends and family are equally encouraged to access services as well. The primary objective is to help survivors stabilize and regain control of their lives so they may return to a healthy, meaningful life free of debilitating trauma responses.

About This Cause

SARC was founded in 1977 and operated exclusively by volunteers with no significant operating budget until 1998. The agency stands as a unique fixture in Oregon today as one of two non-profits in the state dedicated to serving adult and adolescent survivors of sexual assault. Our array of free and confidential services include 1) a 24-hour support line, 2) 24-hour in-person crisis response for survivors who are seeking medical attention, a forensic exam, and/or filing a police report; 3) follow-up services to provide information, resources, and additional support; 5) individual and group mental health services; and 6) school-based prevention education.
