Mission Statement
Our primary goal is to bring together musicians and audiences in friendly, affordable, and accessible musical experiences through excellent concert programming and our education program. Our music is approachable, affordable and accessible!
About This Cause
PCSO began as a community orchestra at Lewis & Clark College (1982) and is now a regional metropolitan symphony. We perform major works by great composers, lesser-known works by them and their contemporaries, works by NW composers and annually commission new works. We perform music that has both audience appeal and intellectual value. While we often select repertory from the comfort zone of our patrons, we also actively seek ways to enlarge that zone. PCSO fills the niche as a professional performance outlet to the large number of trained, excellent musicians in the area. Our primary goal is to bring together musicians and audiences in friendly, affordable, and accessible musical experiences through excellent concert programming and our education program, MEET the BEAT. PCSO offers a subscription season of four concerts each performed in downtown Portland on Friday evenings at the First United Methodist Church and repeated in family/senior-friendly matinees in our Sundays at 3 Series at Mt. Hood Community College, Gresham, an area typically underserved by the arts. We present at least one educational interactive concert targeting children and their families. 8500+ individual audience members, musicians, volunteers, social service organizations, and schools are impacted annually.
