About This Cause
The mission of Portland Actors Conservatory is to provide comprehensive and rigorous actor training by engaging the mind, heart and spirit of the artist while cultivating a culture to inspire our students and global audience to make a lifelong commitment to and investment in the living arts. We are committed to serving the region’s performing arts community with continued and sustained excellence. We not only provide actor training, we are also a vital part of the region's arts and culture, and are proud to be part of Portland’s burgeoning ecosystem of theater companies of all sizes. Over our 30 year history, Portland Actors Conservatory has grown from a single acting class to a nationally-accredited conservatory program that is thriving. We are a full-fledged performing arts and educational organization producing professional plays and offering a range of public programs, including: 1. CONSERVATORY PROGRAM: Our full-time, two-year Conservatory Program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). It is a rigorous and intensive course of study for the serious student with a tenacious desire to become a professional actor. Classes in movement, voice, acting, improvisation, styles, text analysis and more create a rounded experience for the disciplined theatre student. After completing their first year, students must audition to be accepted into the second year program, during which they will put theory into practice by performing in our Season of Plays. Second year studies also include special workshops in dialects, stage management, audition technique, film acting and professional orientation workshops, as well as continuing classes in voice and movement. 2. STUDIO PROGRAM: We offer a menu of flexible evening and weekend classes for adult learners who wish to explore acting, as well as training for professionals wanting to hone a particular skill. Classes offered through the Studio Program include acting fundamentals, audition techniques, Meisner technique, scene study, film acting, and Shakespeare intensives.
