Mission Statement

Cycle Breakers Changing the World One Child at a time. Restoring what is right and natural from what went wrong.

About This Cause

Started in 1989, Mi Casa is here to love and raise the orphaned, abandoned and abused children in El Salvador, Central America. We are "Cycle Breakers", pure and simple as the cycle of abuse continues from generation to generation. The children we receive are from generations of abuse and abandonment. WE ARE LAUNCHING A NEW PROJECT! PROJECT TITLE House of Life Mama & Baby Shelter PROJECT MANAGER Robert McDonell POINT OF CONTACT NAME Robert McDonell PHONE: 541-241-7836 EMAIL bob@micasakids.org MAILING Robert McDonell Mi Casa International c/o Mike Larson CPA Co. 5665 Meadows Rd Suite 310, Lake Oswego, Oregon 97035 PURPOSE: Our mission from God has remained the same over the past 34 years, 1) Find children that need the help the most (in the case of the House Of Life the children are the unborn babies and their teen mothers. 2) Give them shelter in a loving home environment 3) Give them education and occupational training so they can care for themselves one day 4) To do everything in Gods name and for His Glory GOALS: Healthy Babies-Healthy Mothers-Healthy Families of Origin. AUDIENCE: Our focus is on 9 to 14yr old teen mothers and their unborn babies along their family of origin. STORY: The House of Life Mama and Baby Shelter is a safe haven for abused, traumatized, pregnant girls between 9 and 14 years of age. A place where they will receive proper medical care along with psychological and spiritual attention, relaxation therapy, yoga, self-defense classes, group therapy, and arts and craft classes. They will also continue or restart their formal education along with extensive training on how to care for and raise their babies. The House of life benefits three separate groups with each pregnant girl/teen that enters the program. First: The pregnant girl/teen will be in a safe protected environment with 30 other girls who have suffered the same abuse and trauma. They will be able to relax stress and trauma free and have the best chance possible to have healthy babies. Second: Babies born to underage mothers in abusive, stressful, and violent environments suffer significant irreversible neurological damage and are at higher risk of premature birth. Babies at the House of Life are born healthy and vibrant with every chance to develop into all that God has for them. House of life also places major focus on the first 100 days of the baby’s life when their brain grows 70% in size and the strong caregiver/baby neurological connections are formed. Third: While all of this is going on between Mama and Baby, House of life social workers are working with the family of origin to try and eliminate and repair the abusive environment that led to an underage abused pregnancy in the first place. The added benefit to all this is that all siblings of the abused Mama will also benefit by the elimination or repair of the dysfunctional family situation that caused the problem in the first place. TEAM: Robert McDonell – Founder/Director Mi Casa International Dr Alexandra Harrison Psychiatrist (Specialist in Caregiver-Child Psychiatry) Assistant Professor Psychiatry Part Time at Cambridge Health Alliance, Harvard Medical School. Dr Harrison is also the founder of SCC Supporting Child Caregivers https://supportingchildcaregivers.org/team of which Mi Casa and Mi Casa Founder Robert McDonell are in alliance with. Kara Wilson Founder Project Red https://www.projectredelsalvador.org/ Kara and her team at Project Red will be leading and supporting our field work with the teen mothers families of origin. BUDGET: Budget is available on request TIMEFRAME: We just received the accreditation of the House of Life Mama & Baby Shelter on August 16, 2022 from the El Salvadorian government. December 1st 2022: identify a facility for the first 30 teen mothers and their babies and find a donor for the rental or purchase of the facility June 15th 2023: facility furnished and staff in place and commitments in place to cover half of the monthly budget for the first year June 30th begin receiving the first pregnant mothers in the program COMMENTS: These timeline goals are aggressive because we have been watching the Lord move this project over the past six months and He is moving everything in order and quite quickly. This is His project and we are following His lead. Thanks to Matt Knight (who was on our Board of Directors, visited the children here many times, and loved the children here so much) we had two beautiful homes donated to Mi Casa in order to raise the children in a safe loving home environment. They are across the street from each other and the girls are in one home and the boys in the other. We currently have 28 children. This is our second and third generation of children and we continue to absolutely believe that they will live productive, fulfilled and functional lives like the first generation we raised. Thanks to so many amazing people, not one of the children we have raised over the past 30 years has returned to the cycle of abuse or abandonment. We have a 100% success rate! All of the children we received 30 years ago are now adults with their own children and families and it is with great joy that I can tell you NOT EVEN ONE has left or abused their children. The Cycle is broken! All are working, many are professionals with one doctor, two nurses, several with university degrees, and seven with their own businesses. We have started a new cycle that will now go on for generations. Thank you for considering us. All of us at Mi Casa so appreciate you taking the time to read about the children here and consider becoming a part of our Mi Casa Family. God Bless, Bob McDonell Founder/Director
