Mission Statement
To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
About This Cause
We are the Parent-Teacher Association for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr elementary school in Northeast Portland. The school is a dual program neighborhood and Mandarin immersion school. Serving over 300 students, our school is one of the smallest in Portland Public Schools, limiting our funding from the District. We strive to honor Dr. MLK Jr. Elementary School’s history as a cornerstone of Portland’s Albina neighborhood; provide resources to meet the needs of the school’s families and staff; and create a safe, supportive space for all community voices to be heard.
