Mission Statement

Multnomah County Library is one of our community’s most important educational and cultural resources, visited by nearly 28,000 people per day at its 19 neighborhood locations and online. The library offers families 17,500 storytimes and culturally rich programs in six languages. No other organization reaches 75% of our county’s babies, kids and teens with proven literacy programs. Librarians are trusted guides who have expanded their work, with the help of private funding, to provide year-round literacy programs, beginning at birth and continuing through high school graduation. That reach is made possible with gifts to The Library Foundation – a lean, nimble non-profit that strengthens Multnomah County Library’s leadership, innovation and reach. We do not raise funds for basic library operations. Instead, we work in partnership with the library to determine where private funds can make a difference for children and families.

About This Cause

We focus on three key areas: early literacy, school age success, and learning for life. Gifts to the foundation are used to expand the library’s reach to children and adults in every neighborhood and school district across our community.
