Mission Statement
ReBuilding Center builds community resilience in the Portland region by ensuring access to affordable reclaimed home improvement materials, reuse education, and repair skills so people can be self-sufficient and reduce waste.
About This Cause
The ReBuilding Center strives to make reuse and repair central to the climate justice movement. To make reuse a visible, accessible, and positive alternative to new consumption, we operate the largest reuse retail warehouse in the region, keeping more than 3 million pounds of building and home improvement material out of the landfills each year and selling it back to the community at very affordable prices. We also provide more than 150 home repair skill-building classes each year, teaching more than 2,000 people each year to do their own home repairs affordably and safely with reclaimed materials. Combined, these efforts encourage reuse, teach repair skills, make it possible for people with low income to purchase high-quality, highly-discounted reclaimed items, and reduce the pollution and material extraction created by the production and consumption of new materials.
