Free Geek is committed to including everyone in our digital future. We sustainably reuse technology, enable digital access and provide education to create a community that empowers people to realize their potential. Since our founding, we have salvaged over 27 million pounds of electronic waste for recycling and reuse, distributed nearly 90,000 refurbished devices back into the community, served over 300,000 individuals and nearly 20,000 nonprofits and community organizations, received over one million hours of volunteer service from over 40,000 individuals, and offer over 5,000 hours of free community education to learners of all ages and backgrounds each year.
About This Cause
Free Geek has created a unique circular model which points two existing societal problems - excess electronic waste in need of sustainable reuse and recycling, and lack of access to basic technology among vulnerable populations - back at each other to reveal innovative solutions. We collect over one million pounds of e-waste per year. The computers we refurbish and put back into the community are saved from ending up in landfills, and instead go on to find a new life helping provide vulnerable populations with the digital literacy skills they need to succeed and thrive.
