Mission Statement
All Ages Recreation Downtown (AARD) is a nonprofit public benefit corporation dedicated to bringing all ages recreation programs and destinations in or near downtown Lafayette, California. Higher density areas traditionally have decreased access to green spaces and no-cost recreation options. Downtown recreation increases the vibrancy of the Mt. Diablo area and increases foot traffic to local businesses. Destinations and programs within walking, biking, and rolling distance from high density housing, senior housing, schools, and businesses are more sustainable and decrease traffic congestion. When our community plays together, we are enriched in spirit, fitness, and fiscal health. Recreation programs and destinations funded through your donations to AARD are all hosted and designed within a 15-minute walk of the highest density, most diverse, and lowest income areas in Lafayette. All ages may play together, free of charge, and sustainably accessible from all downtown multi-family housing and senior living communities.
About This Cause
The City of Lafayette ("the City") and nonprofit All Ages Recreation Downtown (AARD) are actively working together to provide improvements to Leigh Creekside Park and the creation of a new active play area at the Gazebo site downtown. AARD also brings pop-up recreation (games, activities, and crafts) to Plaza Park and multiple local events. AARD hosted 36 events that brought free recreation to 6,225 people of all ages within just the past 12 months. All Ages Recreation Downtown (AARD) is actively fundraising to help the City move forward with new recreation sites near downtown. If you are interested in helping to bring more play for all ages near downtown Lafayette, consider making a donation today. Your tax-deductible donation will go towards AARD’s pop-up recreation programs as well as support the design and construction of new parks and creek walks in downtown Lafayette. In June of 2023, the City Council allocated $35k towards the Conceptual Designs of Leigh Creekside and Gazebo Parks and hired playground design consultant, Scientific Art Studio to create concept sketches (phase 1). Work by Scientific Art Studio includes wonderful playgrounds at San Francisco Zoo, Oakland Zoo, Bay Area Discovery Museum Lookout Cove, and more. The Two Parks project is included in the Parks, Trails & Recreation Commission’s Capital Improvement Plan. Park 1: New park near creek: 3425 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Gazebo Lot Park 2: Add play to Leigh Creekside Park, corner of 4th St. & Moraga Blvd. The City formalized the partnership with nonprofit All Ages Recreation Downtown (AARD). AARD is currently fundraising to support the Two Parks Collaborative Concept. AARD has pledged to raise $50K to support the conceptual design of the project (phase 2). Donations are accepted on AARD’s website. The two parks are connected by an existing East Bay Regional Park District Trail. The trail is currently closed due to erosion caused by the creek, but EBRPD staff have plans to move forward with repairs as they move through the proper permit approval process for working in the creek.
