Mission Statement
New Wave Opera (NWO) tells fresh, relevant stories by living composers through the medium of opera. Our intimate, no-frills productions prioritize theatrical principles and a blackbox aesthetic, proving that a small ensemble of exceptional artists can deliver powerful, immediate storytelling. By centering women and queer creators onstage and behind the scenes, we champion a more inclusive future for the art form.
About This Cause
New Wave Opera believes that opera is a living art form and that new works best represent the variety of stories, experiences, and identities of our performers and audiences. We uplift composers and singers of diverse backgrounds and are dedicated to increasing opportunities for sopranos and mezzos who are underused in standard opera repertoire. We expand access to the arts through all-ages programming, free/reduced price tickets, printed lyrics and/or supertitle projections, and ASL interpreted shows.
