Mission Statement
There is an increasing need for mental health education and resources customized for people of color, especially within younger demographics who may have specific cultural needs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC (2024, June 20), minority populations face reduced access to mental health treatment and frequently encounter care that lacks cultural sensitivity to their unique needs when seeking assistance. Furthermore, the CDC has recognized racism as a significant threat to public health, directly affecting the communities we seek to serve (CDC, 2024, June 20). The Job Project (TJP) focuses on delivering emotional and mental health support through a faith-based, culturally relevant model that can bridge this gap in care. TJP holds a unique role as a faith-based mental health organization, recognizing that many individuals who base their lives on faith often turn first to religious leaders for support rather than mental health professionals (Boateng et al., 2023, March). Through its workshops, seminars, training sessions, online resources, and support for individual mental health services, TJP seeks to engage with individuals and leaders in religious spaces where this population feels most comfortable addressing mental and emotional challenges (Pederson, A. B., 2023, March 1). Recognizing that many faith-based organizations may lack the resources or programs to meet these unique needs, TJP steps in to provide the tools and guidance needed to create meaningful and lasting change. By empowering individuals and organizations, TJP facilitates the crucial integration of faith and mental health, fostering sustainable and impactful solutions.
About This Cause
TJP offers a diverse range of services designed to address mental health within faith communities. Our workshops provide faith-based mental health education to churches, organizations, and individuals, fostering emotional and spiritual well-being. In 2025, we will launch affordable mental health support groups that offer community care, allowing individuals to strengthen their mental and emotional health in a faith-based environment. Our Living Room Series, a quarterly worship gathering, blends worship, testimony, and encouragement to create sacred spaces where faith and mental health intersect. Additionally, our digital content, including online resources and a podcast, provides accessible, Christ-centered mental health education to uplift and inspire. Looking ahead, we are working to establish the Restoring Hope Initiative, a financial assistance fund to provide therapy grants for individuals who lack the financial means to access professional mental health care. TJP has demonstrated its growing capacity to support faith-based, BIPOC individuals across the East Coast. Over the past year, we have engaged over 100 individuals in our mental health and faith-centered workshops, with 77% of participants reporting they are more likely to continue their mental health journey as a result. Our online presence has also expanded, with a 356% increase in engagement on Instagram, broadening our reach to faith-based Millennials and Gen Z. TJP has successfully partnered with six faith-based organizations and businesses, including churches, to provide tailored programming for their communities and leaders. Financial support has grown as well, with over $21,535 raised from individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Unlike many mental health organizations, TJP provides a unique, faith-integrated approach to mental health support. We are particularly committed to serving BIPOC communities and individuals who face racial and faith-based stigma or experience spiritual bypassing of their mental health challenges. Our programs address the unique barriers these communities face in accessing culturally competent and faith-sensitive mental health resources. To expand our impact and continue providing essential programming, we are seeking funding to support our 2025 initiatives, including launching new support groups, expanding the Living Room Series, increasing digital mental health education resources, and establishing the Restoring Hope Initiative for therapy access. Additional funding will allow us to subsidize program costs, reach more underserved communities, and continue breaking the stigma surrounding faith and mental health.
