Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District

Beaverton,, Oregon, 97006 United States

Mission Statement

As a nationally renowned parks and recreation district, we provide recreation facilities, programs, services, and natural areas to the greater Beaverton community of Oregon.

About This Cause

Sixty years ago Elsie Stuhr had a vision of a strong, active community. Stuhr, a local physical education teacher, spearheaded a campaign that has led to the creation of one of the largest special district parks and recreation organizations in the nation, spanning about 50 square miles and serving more than 220,000 residents in the greater Beaverton area. THPRD continues Stuhrs legacy today by fostering healthy and active lifestyles in the community through unique recreational activities, while connecting people to the natural areas that make Oregon famous. Our volunteers are the key ingredient to our success in our mission. Each year, volunteer coaches, lifeguards, natural area restoration volunteers, therapeutic aides for seniors and physically challenged individuals, day-care attendants, special event volunteers and many others make it possible for citizens of all abilities, ages, and diverse backgrounds to participate in THPRD activities.
