Mission Statement

Enriching the quality of life of older adults.

About This Cause

Founded in 1871, Jewish Home & Rehab Center (JHRC), on the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL), has grown and diversified as community needs have evolved, but our mission to enrich the quality of life for older adults has never wavered. Today, as the largest, private, nonprofit distinct-part skilled nursing facility in San Francisco, as well as the state of California, we serve a diverse population of close to 1,800 patients and residents annually, offering a wide range of services through both our long-term care (skilled nursing) and short-stay programs (e.g. post-acute rehabilitation, acute geriatric psychiatry and hospice care). We serve the most medically/cognitively frail seniors, as well as financially indigent elders who do not pay the full cost of care. Approximately 98 percent of our continuing care/ longer-term residents are Medi-Cal recipients. Both short-stay and long-term care admissions are open to all, and are not limited by race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability. SFCJL is located in San Francisco's Excelsior District but serves and cares for older adults from as far south as Los Angeles to as far north as Shasta counties in its short-stay programs. We place a profound emphasis on providing older adults with a variety of life-enriching programs and services that are accessible, promote individual dignity, encourage independence, combat isolation, connect them to their community, provide for intergenerational socialization and experiences, and reflect the social, cultural, and spiritual values of Jewish tradition.
