Mission Statement
The ASCDC is an innovative early childhood education and care program operating since 1972 for the young children (age four months through five years) of San Jose State University families and the community. Low income student parents may qualify for child care subsidies and all SJSU student parents pay special reduced rates. The Child Development Center is a department within the Associated Students of SJSU, an independent non-profit organization serving as an auxiliary and student government for SJSU.
About This Cause
The mission of the non-profit Associated Students Child Development Center is to provide exemplary early education and care at an affordable cost for the young children of SJSU students so they can complete their educational goals. Families from the community as well as SJSU faculty, staff, and alumni are also welcome to attend. Originally founded as the Frances Gulland Center in 1972, the ASCDC became a department of Associated Students in 2000. Licensed by the State of California to serve 110 children ages form four months through five years, the center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of young Children (NAEYC) and earned a Platinum rating in the Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) from the California Department of Education for our programs. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early education, our emergent curriculum encourages critical thinking, investigative learning, and creative expression through the arts.
