About This Cause
Good Shepherd Gracenter Program Description Mission Statement Good Shepherd Gracenter helps women without resources to break free from drug and alcohol addiction and lead healthy, meaningful and productive lives. As a Licensed Recovery Residence for women, Good Shepherd Gracenter offers a path to successful recovery and community reintegration by addressing the major barriers faced by many substance abusers. The lack of a safe home, spirituality, education and social skills—and for some, involvement with the criminal justice system—makes it even more difficult for them to find a job and maintain housing and sobriety. Good Shepherd Gracenter understands that recovery is a process that is unique to each woman. It provides an innovative program of a positive peer community with clean and sober housing, individual recovery mentoring, case management, monthly classes and referrals to a variety of services. Education is vital to recovery and Good Shepherd Gracenter encourages women to obtain their high school diploma, GED, or consider attending college, taking vocational training or participating in valuable internships. Women also focus on employment, money management, career development and mastering their social skills. Attending arts and cultural events provides recreational and educational experiences that promote positive socialization. Women find their spirituality through their Higher Power, following their own personal faith tradition. All are active members of a 12 Step community. As part of repairing the harms caused by addiction and destructive behaviors, the women at Gracenter are involved in restitution, apology, changed behavior and acts of generosity. Restorative Justice encourages each woman to advocate for personal responsibility, extend a helping hand and doing what she can to make the world a better place. Good Shepherd Gracenter adheres to the guidelines of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to effectively support a life in recovery through “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life and strive to reach their full potential.” SAMHSA outlines four major dimensions: health, home, purpose and community. All of these dimensions are an integral part of Good Shepherd Gracenter’s program.
