About This Cause

Founded in 1916, the mission of San Jose Day Nursery (SJDN) is to promote child excellence through early care and education, parent engagement, and community partnerships. The Nursery is located in one of the most ethnically diverse and low-income neighborhoods in San Jose, in a zip code identified by the Local Child Care Planning Council as having the greatest need for subsidized child care. Between 75% and 80% of the children served by SJDN come from families with incomes at 50% or below the County median income. These families do not pay the full cost of care, therefore requiring SJDN to fundraise the difference between what these families can and do pay and what it really costs to provide care for their children. San Jose Day Nursery is one of the only early care and education centers in San Jose to consistently though the years offer income-based sliding-scale tuition for young children.
