Mission Statement
Founded by a caring and compassionate married couple, in 1967, who wanted more for their daughter, Ann who is developmentally disabled. Dr. & Mrs. Clausen founded Clausen House where Ann could live, learn and grow, like everybody else. It was an innovative idea at the time which has now grown in size and scope over the years to include: 6 robust programs: residential, adult education and day training, supported employment, independent and supported living services as well as affordable housing.
About This Cause
The impact that Clausen House has on our Clients and our Community is monumental. Since 1967, for 48 years, Clausen House (a 501c3 nonprofit organization) has been creating opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) to gain competency, develop relationships and join the community with increasing command over their own lives. On the small scale we are changing the lives of our 200 clients while providing indirect support to their 625 families. We increase the quality of life for our clients who struggle with: autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and other intellectually and developmentally disabling conditions. We provide a specialized curriculum tailored to our client’s individual needs and teach in a safe environment where they can learn and grow. Through a series of traditional and nontraditional classes, our clients can reach self-actualization; that is the ability to dream, set goals and achieve them. On the large scale we are progressive catalysts for social change enabling a previously underserved community of people to become empowered. Through visibility and inclusion we create opportunities for community integration for our clients, their families, our community and our future. Clausen House is centralized in Alameda County which is home to 1.6 million people who collectively benefit from the outcomes of our work.
