Mission Statement
"The Lions Eye Foundation preserves and restores the gift of sight by providing free ophthalmic examinations, operations and medications to the less fortunate members of our community."
About This Cause
For 65 years, the Lions Eye Foundation (LEF) has provided free ophthalmic examinations, operations and medications to the less fortunate members of our community in Northern California and Nevada. LEF provides these services by partnering with the Sutter Health California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) Ophthalmology Residency Program. Lions clubs provide patients and financial sustenance to the program. Patients are seen at the new Lions Eye Clinic located at the Pacific Vision Foundation (PVF) Eye Institute building at 711 Van Ness Avenue, Suite 250, San Francisco, California. The Ophthalmology Residency is also located there. The new state of the art Eye Clinic opened in April, 2017. PVF opened a new Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) next door and on the same floor as the Eye Clinic in October, 2020. The opening of the new ASC was made possible by a $1.5 million dollar grant by LEF to PVF. Many LEF patients are now receiving their surgeries there. In an average year, the following services are provided: over 200 eye surgeries; 500 to 700 eye injections; 100 to 200 laser procedures; and, 2000 to 3000 ophthalmic diagnostic tests. These services are provided free of cost to financially qualified uninsured patients.
