Self-Help for the Elderly promotes independence, well-being, and dignity for older adults through culturally aligned services and programs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
About This Cause
Self-Help for the Elderly is a community-based and non-profit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of services to seniors since 1966. Over the years, Self-Help for the Elderly has continuously expanded its programs and services to offer employment training and job placement; citizenship services; housing; nutrition; social services; counseling; social activities; technology education; licensed home healthcare and hospice; home-delivered meals; Alzheimer’s and adult day healthcare; and residential care for the frail. Each year, over 40,000 seniors are served across San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, and Contra Costa Counties, with more than 90 percent from the low-income and minority communities. Self-Help for the Elderly strives to be the premier provider of senior services in the Bay Area with a special focus on Asian seniors. Our mission is to promote the independence, dignity and self-worth of seniors by empowering them to help themselves and by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services. Self-Help for the Elderly provides inclusive services along a continuum of care for seniors. These include nine service departments: (I) Adult Day Services (ADS) (II) Employment Training & Economic Development (ETED) (III) Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) (IV) Homecare & Hospice (V) Low-Income & Affordable Housing (VI) Nutrition & Senior Centers (VII) Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) (VIII) Social Services (IX) Technology & Information Empowerment Center (TIE) Self-Help for the Elderly offers most of these services free of charge or at low and subsidized rates.
