CHINESE FOR AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

Mission Statement

Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) was founded in 1969 to protect the civil and political rights of Chinese Americans and to advance multiracial democracy in the United States. Today, CAA is a progressive voice in and on behalf of the broader Asian and Pacific American community. We advocate for systemic change that protects immigrant rights, promotes language diversity, and remedies racial injustice.

About This Cause

Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) is a fiscal sponsor and member of Asian Americans for Civil Rights and Equality (AACRE), a network comprising 11 social justice groups focused on long-term movement building, capacity infrastructure, and leadership support for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. AACRE network groups include: AACRE, APEX Express, Asian Prisoner Support Committee, Asian Refugees United, Alliance of South Asians taking Action, Chinese for Affirmative Action, Hmong Innovating Politics, Hyphen, Lavender Phoenix, Network on Religion and Justice, Stop AAPI Hate, VietUnity, and Visibility Project. CAA is also the fiscal sponsor for Stop AAPI Hate (SAH), an initiative co-led by Chinese for Affirmative Action, AAPI Equity Alliance (AAPI Equity), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University. Founded in early 2020 in response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the coalition tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. SAH's approach recognizes that in order to effectively address anti-Asian racism, we must work to end all forms of structural racism leveled at Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.
