Mission Statement
Swords to Plowshares’ mission is to heal the wounds of war, to restore dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency to all veterans in need, and to prevent and end homelessness and poverty among veterans. Our vision is that all veterans will have access to the care and services they need to rebuild their lives.
About This Cause
Founded in 1974, Swords to Plowshares is a community-based, not-for-profit veteran service organization that provides wrap-around care to nearly 3,000 veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area each year. We are committed to helping veterans break through the cultural, educational, psychological and economic barriers they often face in their transition to the civilian world. We understand the issues veterans face - including homelessness, unemployment, disability, and health - are interconnected and require wrap-around support. Our services support veterans in three key areas. Health & Wellness Access to healthcare, counseling, critical needs, and a community of support is critical for veterans trying to turn their life around. Housing Support We believe that every veteran deserves a safe and stable place to call home, but we recognize that not every path to housing is the same. Financial Stability Securing income through employment or disability income is key to restoring independence and dignity.
