PAU's Mission Through education, research, and training in psychology and counseling, PAU prepares its students to address pressing and emerging issues that equitably meet the needs of our ever-changing human condition. PAU's Vision A world in which insight into human behavior improves well-being and contributes to just and inclusive communities. PAU's Values PAU’s values have been reaffirmed through lived experience, group discussions, surveys, and focus groups. About This Cause
Palo Alto University (PAU) is a private, nonprofit educational institution, founded in 1975 as the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (PGSP), an independent, professional school. PGSP was first accredited in 1986 by the regional accrediting body, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It has been continuously accredited since then. PGSP re-incorporated as Palo Alto University in August 2009. PAU is dedicated to education with an emphasis in the behavioral and social sciences; to promoting future innovators and leaders for the benefit of society; to generating knowledge through research and scholarship of the highest level; and to providing services to the community informed by science and scholarship in Psychology and Counseling. The university offers undergraduate degree programs, Master's programs, as well as Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs. Diversity is a very important value at Palo Alto University. The institution's goal is to promote, on all levels, efforts to integrate understanding and scholarship related to diversity into our mission of training culturally competent clinical and research psychologists. Our vision is to create an institution that is a national model for culturally competent clinical psychology and counseling training programs. In order to create institutional excellence in cultural competency, PAU has addressed six focus areas: Funding, Institution-wide Assessment, Student and Faculty Recruitment, Culturally Competent Curriculum, Faculty and Student Development, and Institutional Culture. PAU maintains several international collaborations, supporting local, clinical practicum training in China and Latin America for students who participate in PAU’s online M.A. in Counseling or Counseling Psychology programs. The University is also in collaborative partnerships with many community organizations, including Stanford School of Medicine, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Palo Alto Medical Center, and other mental health care organizations. The Gronowski Center, PAU's training clinic, delivers sliding-scale mental health services while also providing valuable, supervised training to PAU graduate students. In addition, PAU sponsors several academic centers devoted to child mental health, evidence-based care for LGBTQ+ clients, excellence in diversity and community care, and internet-based global healthcare.
