Mission Statement
Wu Yee's mission is to create opportunities for children to be healthy, for families to thrive and for communities to be strong. Our Belief: Wu Yee Children’s Services believes nothing is more essential than excellent child care and education for all our children, right from the start. Every day we partner with parents, as well as countless individuals and organizations across San Francisco, to provide a network that strengthens and connects a diverse, resilient community around our children. Because when we stand up for children, we stand up for one another.
About This Cause
Wu Yee Children’s Services was founded in 1977 by social workers concerned about the challenging circumstances of immigrant families in Chinatown. In the years since our formation, we have grown to a city-scale agency serving diverse populations. We provide high-quality child care and early childhood education, child care resource and referral to families, parenting classes and support groups for parents, and child care provider support services in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco. Our twelve Child Development Centers are located in San Francisco neighborhoods including Chinatown, the Tenderloin, Bayview/Hunters Point, Potrero Hill, Western Addition, OMI, and Visitacion Valley. Wu Yee also advocates with public agencies for families and children. Each of the hundreds of children we care for represents a family whose parents are able to work or pursue education because they have access to child care. We are the largest provider of Head Start and Early Head Start services in the city and an established voice for disadvantaged, immigrant and working low-income parents. Our programs operate in English, Cantonese and Spanish. Wu Yee is led and overseen by an engaged Board of Directors. Our experienced Leadership Team manages the agency and maintains integration and strategic focus between Wu Yee’s diverse programs and locations. Wu Yee is funded by public agencies, private foundations, businesses and individuals. Our supporters are invaluable partners and we are grateful for their support and strategic input.
