Mission Statement

The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History (SCMNH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Under the guidance of our Board of Directors, SCMNH operates in support of its Mission: Connecting People with Nature and Science to Inspire Stewardship of the Natural World.

About This Cause

Located above Seabright Beach, the Museum highlights the region's diverse plant, animal, and human communities from the shoreline of Monterey Bay to the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Our staff, board, and volunteers endeavor to fulfill our mission of connecting people with nature and science to inspire stewardship of the natural world through engaging educational programs and exhibits focused on our region's rich natural and cultural history. We offer free admission for all children and provide vital support for K-12 schools. An independent nonprofit since 2009, the Museum is a hub for providing people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities with an array of public programs to connect with nature and understand science by visiting the Museum and spending time outdoors.
