SANTA CRUZ TODDLER CARE CENTER

SANTA CRUZ, California, 95062-1707 United States

Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Santa Cruz Toddler Center is to address the critical need for quality, affordable child care for children 12 - 36 MONTHS old whose parents must work, attend school or training programs. The center's secondary purpose is acting as a model to other child care centers throughout the community, the state and the nation. The Center is inspired by the RIE philosophy, created by Magda Gerber.

About This Cause

The Toddler Center provides full day, year-round quality child care to toddlers aged 1- 3 years old. We offer both full and part time slots and a sliding scale based on family income and size. Between 35 and 50% of our families are low income. The extreme youth of the children we serve necessitates the state-mandated ratio of 1 teacher to 4 children. The center implement a RIE-based philosophy based on primary care, developmentally appropriate environment and parent support. We offer home visits, parent resource information, referrals and regular parent social/education events. The center offers three hot vegetarian meals daily and has won awards from the California State Department of Education for its quality food program. The Center publishes 1,2,3…The Toddler Years, a resource for parents and teachers demonstrating ways to apply our philosophy in their interactions with toddlers. The book is used as a textbook in Early Childhood Education classes throughout the country and also available on Amazon.
