Mission Statement
SEADCis a registered 501 (c) 3 whose mission is to foster a healthy, thriving and self-sufficient Southeast Asian American community.
About This Cause
Founded in 1977 as the Vietnamese Youth Development Center, we were renamed the Southeast Asian Development Center in 2019 to better represent the broad range of services we provide to low income youth and families—helping them pursue higher education, be prepared for work, improve personal health outcomes, and promote self-efficacy. The aftermath of war has had a multigenerational effect on our clients who have primarily come from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, as well as countries around the world. We have recently supported Filipino, Arabic and Latino clients to a lesser extent as well. These families, and particularly young people, are still struggling to move forward. SEADC, born out of this history, has strengthened and refined our programs to meet our community’s current needs so that we are the go-to resource for a brighter future for each family in need. SEADC has served 20,000 Southeast Asian clients locally since our inception, provided job placement for 6,000 high school youth and 800 adults, offered counseling to 2,000 clients and substance prevention programs to 4,000 youth, and supported 4,000 clients with language translation services. The vast majority of clients served come from low- or extremely low-income households. With a vision to eliminate the social, economic and equality gap affecting our Southeast Asian community, SEADC focuses our efforts on Youth Development Services, Health and Wellness, and Economic Success attuned to the cultural nuances and needs of this community. This includes youth development services, physical and mental health counseling, substance prevention, access to jobs, job readiness and placement, K-8 and high school academic support and housing assistance to help build successful futures. Our staff also provides translation and English language services and naturalization support services where needed as well as most recently, escorts for seniors, de-escalation and safety workshops, and hosts cross-cultural conversations to break the cycle of violence. SEADC’s Board of Directors and our staff have deep personal connections with our clients’ journeys and lead with respect, cultural pride, integrity, and compassion in working with the families we serve. While SEADC’s local government partnerships help us deliver services to our clients, it is the generosity of individual donors and foundations that enables our staff to provide the sustained and stable support our clients need over time in our headquarters where our services often take place. Please join us! Support our clients’ journeys towards brighter futures with a generous donation to the Southeast Asian Development Center. Your tax-deductible gift will make an enormous difference in the lives of Southeast Asian families in our community.
