Mission Statement
Ecology Action's mission is to provide innovative energy, water, and transportation solutions to all communities locally and nationally to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at scale. These sectors have the most significant opportunity for GHG emission reductions. Ecology Action's programs empower individuals, governments, businesses, and organizations to make positive changes by implementing solutions that create a healthier and more equitable clean energy future coupled with economic benefits for all.
About This Cause
At Ecology Action, we believe that climate justice is social justice, that everyone has a role in the environmental movement, and that protecting the planet often means amplifying the voices of those who have been unheard and disproportionately impacted. Leveraging our 50+-year history, we focus entirely on reversing climate change and implementing a wide array of programs that bring better health and opportunity to underdeveloped communities. Some of our major accomplishments: We design and scale equitable climate solutions that provide 1:1 assistance to individuals, communities, businesses, and government entities to reduce GHG emissions, with over $23.5M in program delivery benefiting marginalized communities over the last decade. We secured $7.5M in grant funding to provide free hot water–energy efficiency upgrades to 24,000 low-income residents and businesses in the greater San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay regions. This work has resulted in a total of $7M in utility bill savings over the life of the conservation appliances installed and reduced emissions by 84,584 MTCO2E annually. In the past two decades, we have taught over 40,000 local kids lifesaving bicycle and pedestrian safety skills while giving these local kids agency through the freedom on independent movement and fostering healthy lifestyle habits. We have also distributed tens of thousands of safety equipment to youth and adults for safer biking in our communities. We have partnered with numerous local agencies to help build community support and secure over $150M in competitive state funding to create safer, more livable streets through important pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure projects regionally.
