Mission Statement
Our church’s mission is to congregate to teach and to learn the Word of God, to become more and more like Christ, to love and to care for our neighbors, and to boldly step out of our comfort zone to make Christ known far and wide. Purpose The purpose of our existence as church has been condensed into “5 M’s”. They are as follows: M1: Magnification • We desire as church to offer our utmost through the offering of a holy and true worship to the living God • God’s living Word will be proclaimed and taught throughout the week and God’s people will experience communion with Him as well as with one another • God’s people will cross boundaries of age, culture, and social status to become one in Christ exalting the Father God, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. M2: Mastering • We devote our resources and energy to mentor and disciple through dedicated and intentional studying of the Scriptures • We teach and encourage our members to spend time with God and seek to develop intimacy with God M3: Maturity • We gather for the purpose of growing together, caring for one another, and sharing one another’s burdens • Small group/cell group are centered around the learning of the Scriptures and making it real in our lives • We pray for and hold each other accountable through prayers, fellowship, and support M4: Ministry • We acknowledge that the health of our church lies heavily in selfless dedication and commitment of lay leaders; hence, we cultivate and train members to find his/her role within the body of Christ according to his/her talents • We heed to concerns of lay leaders, ensuring that no lay ministry becomes burdensome but rather fruitful and sustainable M5: Mission • We train and mobilize each and every member to be active “missionaries” • We allocate our finances and man-power to participate in missional efforts both within our communities and beyond our borders • We pray for and financially support missionaries on the field
About This Cause
This ministry has six committees which oversee and carry out general church duties. For instance, the worship committee oversees three different worship services on a given Sunday (1st service, English service, and 3rd service), Friday night praise worship, special events and revivals, dedication and baptismal services, and missional events. Worship Ministry Team • First-service Choir • Third -service Choir • “To-Gi-Jang-Yi” (Praise Team) The 1st service on Sunday mornings meets at 8:30AM. Members who come at this time are mostly the elderly who have an affinity to a more traditional style of worship. There are about 100-110 in attendance during this service. 2nd service takes place at 9:45AM and we refer to this service as the “EM” or the English Ministry. There are about 75-85 members who speak primarily English during this service. They are typically young families, singles, and college students whose parents attend the same church at a different time or teachers of Sunday School who worship during this time and serve as volunteer teachers during the 3rd service. Finally, the 3rd service is held at 11:30AM and draws the largest crowd, approximately 150-170 members. This service is a good mix of contemporary and traditional style of worship, comprised of young and old Korean-Americans; and for non-Korean speakers, they can elect to listen to sermons via headsets for simultaneous translation, which is provided by a team of volunteers. Education Ministry Team • Preschool • Elementary • AWANA • Youth • College • “New Family Orientation/Bible Study Class” • Systematic Theology Class • Leadership Training On a given Sunday, there are 2 preschool worship services, 2 Elementary worship services, Youth Group service, College Group service. AWANA program meets every Friday nights. Currently, there are over 150 children of all ages worshipping during 2nd or 3rd service, and a myriad of teachers and volunteers who are investing in training and teaching the youth. Some teachers have been serving the youth for more than 10 years, being witness to watching the preschool children grow up and become faithful servants of God before they head off to college. Mission Committee Mission Committee finance and oversee mission events throughout the year. Currently, we go on short-mission trips to churches and orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico and Ensenada, Mexico. The committee also plans yearly short-term mission trips to Mcdermitt Indidan Reservation in Arizona. Facility Maintenance Committee The facility maintenance team works hard to ensure the safety in and around the building and at the parking lot. They enforce order by placing parking lot attendants/volunteers on Sunday mornings when traffic flow can get heavy. Administrative Committee The administrative and finance committee is in charge of all administrative duties and finance matters of the church under the supervision of the senior pastor. Service Ministry Committee The service ministry oversees programs such as the homeless ministry which involves volunteers traveling to inner city Oakland twice a month to prepare and serve food to the homeless. This particular ministry is well organized and well-staffed by dedicated group of people whose goals is to reach the homeless with the love and the gospel of Christ with warm food and trust that is built over a long period of time. Finance Committee • Budget Planning • Accounting Ministry Development • Small Group Committee • Planning Committee • “Coffee Break” Bible Discovery Class Ministry Development committee work to form and oversee small group and cell groups. Cell groups are arranged by proximity, age, stage of life, etc. of members. Typically, there are three to four families per cell group with one family serving as leader/coordinator. They can meet as often as twice per month, but most meet once a month either at church or at designated homes. APC has made a commitment to study the Word together; hence each cell group studies the same curriculum (e.g. Living Life) each month. Committee leaders meet with cell group leaders occasionally to assess feasibility, discuss potential issues, and share ideas. Special Ministry Committee • Nominating Committee • Building/ Relocation Committee • Audit Committee Special committee deal with matters involving nomination of candidates for open positions, overseeing building and relocation issues, and auditing. They meet once every three months to audit finances to ensure that funds are appropriated accordingly, and they explore potential investments should there be a need to relocate or expand. Auxiliary Committee • Singles Group • Men’s Ministry • Women’s Ministry The auxiliary committee is responsible for young adult groups and men’s and women’s ministries. This committee often organize fund-raising events, bi-annual revival events, and spearhead other church-wide events that may involve collaboration with neighborhood churches. Church-sponsored Programs • Korean Language School • The Board of Deacons Sponsored programs committee organizes and oversees programs such as the Korean Language School, which meets every Saturday mornings from 9:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M. More than 100 children flock to school to learn the Korean language and Korean culture. This program is open to both the children of APC and non- believers. Albeit this is a non-religious program, it is a very popular program that serves the community of East Bay. APC and the Korean embassy is currently collaborating to financially support this valuable program.
