Mission Statement

Improving the quality of life, LOV serves the needs of families, children, seniors and those in need in Fremont, Newark and Union City, CA.

About This Cause

For forty years, the League of Volunteers (LOV) has fulfilled its mission to assist with people’s needs and enhance the quality of life in the cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City in Alameda County, California. LOV’s award-winning agency and programs directly serve more than twenty thousand people annually. We are an influential resource in our community. Built on the traditions of community helping those in need and improving the lives of everyone in our reach, LOV changes lives for those who give and for those who receive, every day. LOV operates at an annual budget of between $800,000 and $1,000,000. Our overhead/administration costs are approximately 20%. Previous funding sources include our weekly BINGO game, small program related grants, 4 annual fundraising events, direct to client and in-kind donations and program-related fees. This budget supports 2 full-time staff members, 2 part-time, and 1 program consultant who was formerly our Program Development Director and included in our key personnel. Three seasonal part-time summer camp staff join us for 6 weeks in June/July. All other positions are filled by volunteers from work rehabilitation, court services programs, and hundreds of wonderful adult and youth community volunteers. We provide multiple programs and services: Emergency food pantry - Annually, LOV serves an average 2000 children and their families through our emergency food pantry. Arts in Schools impacts between 8,000-15,000 children each year with school assemblies through donation-supported performances and artists. Summer Camp registers 500 children for 6-weeks of M-Th/10-2 recreation activities. Our holiday programs impact and directly serve over 10,000 people every year providing 4000-5000 Thanksgiving Day community meals served, 5000-8000 recipient children from our Toy Drive, and 250 families in our Holiday Food Basket and Adopt-a-Family programs. In 2020, we tested LOV’s capacity to weather our changing times. Surviving with enduring commitment both from and to our community, we have not been idle while various developments unfolded. Watching and listening to the many people whose lives we impact, LOV remains firm in the knowledge our services must touch lives as well as financial statements. For 2021 and beyond, we’re embracing the changes that make sense. Our amazing community supported LOV’s 2020 emergency response efforts with more than $100,000.00 in unscheduled donations that kept our doors open in 2020-21. We hope you’ll support our important redevelopment and growth efforts in 2022.
