About This Cause

Parents Helping Parents, Inc. (PHP) is a nonprofit, community-based, family resource center serving children of any age who have any disability or chronic or life-threatening illness such as seizures, diabetes, or cancer. Founded in 1976 by two parents of children with Down syndrome, it continues to be a parent-directed organization. PHP’s mission is to help children and adults with special needs receive the support and services they need to reach their full potential by providing information, training and resources to build strong families and improve systems of care. PHP offers parent education, training and support though our programs which include mentoring and peer counseling, an E-Learning library with over 400 videos in 5 languages, 25 condition and culturally-specific parent/professional support and information groups, trainings on navigating the systems of care, and an assistive technology preview and demonstration center. PHP is an award-winning agency, earning recognition as the National Model for Parent Directed Family Resource Centers. As a federally designated Parent Training and Information Center, state appointed Family Empowerment Center and Santa Clara County’s family resource center for early intervention, PHP has a multitude of resources to meet the needs of families and their children with disabilities. From its humble beginnings, PHP has become a $2.6 million agency with 38 employees providing over 19,000 services each year on behalf of children with special needs.
