Mission Statement
The mission of the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund is to provide critical short-term assistance that allows Bay Area residents to stay housed and keep food on the table as they strive to overcome unexpected crises in their lives.
About This Cause
Since 1986, the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund has disbursed more than $205 million to help keep people housed and food on their tables in the nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Season of Sharing Fund is one of the leading providers of emergency financial assistance for residents in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties. Since its founding, more than 185,000 households have received vital emergency assistance from the Season of Sharing Fund. The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund works through a network of more than 150 community service agencies to identify families in need and provide short-term, critical assistance. Support from the Fund can help individuals and families in any number of ways, such as paying the rent so they can stay in their home, covering a security deposit so they can transition out of a homeless shelter, or buying a wheelchair or other essential medical equipment that they couldn’t otherwise afford. In addition, the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund supports food banks to provide 2 million meals each year to individuals and families who might otherwise go hungry. Over the last 38 years the Fund has been one the largest donors to Bay Area food banks, providing them with more than $33 million. All of the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund's administrative expenses are covered by the San Francisco Chronicle and the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. As a result, 100 percent of the money raised goes directly to help the families and communities we serve.
