Community Energy Project partners with low-income communities on the frontlines of climate change to create more resilient, efficient, and healthy homes.

About This Cause

Community Energy Project partners with low-income communities on the frontlines of climate change to create more resilient, efficient, and healthy homes. We transform homes, share skills and community wisdom, and advocate for energy justice. Community Energy Project provides free DIY workshops to teach low-cost energy saving techniques for renters and homeowners alike. Learn how to implement simple measures to lower home energy use by installing effective weatherization materials using basic tools. Community Energy Project offers two different year-round lead poisoning prevention workshops, each providing a free safety kit for qualified participants, and participants qualify for our free HEPA-Vacuum lending program. Lead exposure can occur due to the presence of lead in older paint, plumbing, soil, and even household items. With education, awareness, and action, you can prevent lead poisoning! We believe that people are the experts of their own experience. By empowering people with information and tools and facilitating connections to resources, we can increase the capacity of our community to address many home environmental health, comfort, and safety issues while conserving natural resources. Our expertise is delivering services that educate and empower our clients to live in healthy, safe, and efficient homes. We work in partnership with over one hundred community organizations to bring our services to clients. By working in partnership and collaboration with culturally-specific organizations we create critical connections to the communities of color we serve. Serving multi-cultural communities, families, and individuals has been at the core of our work since our founding in 1979. We envision a future where all people can afford to live in their homes with dignity, comfort, and safety. Every year beyond providing workshops we also conduct free basic weatherization and safety repairs for hundreds of low-income seniors and provide direct weatherization and safety repairs to people with disabilities and seniors with the help of hundreds of volunteers. We install energy-saving materials and utilize draft-stopping materials to lower heating bills, conserve energy, and make the home more comfortable. We can fix or upgrade crucial components or install materials to make your home safer and easier to access. In addition to our workshops and our in-homes direct repairs, we have a Home Solutions program. As a non-profit, CEP Home Advisors offer an objective, unbiased approach to making your home upgrade the best that it can. We've worked with thousands of homeowners and can help a person prioritize upgrades and make confident decisions, every step of the way. We take the uncertainty and stress out of finding the right contractor. We carefully screen local contractors using rigorous quality and customer service standards. Our advisers are also there to review bids and ensure you’re getting a fair price. Through our network of trusted, local lenders, we offer exclusive lending options with great rates to make your project affordable. We’ll also help you find any rebates and incentives you qualify for and handle the paperwork, so you can make the most of every dollar.
