About This Cause

The Housing Development Consortium of Seattle - King County (HDC) HDC is the professional association for organizations and businesses committed to creating and providing affordable housing for low-income and special needs residents of King County. We strive to support and inspire our members through education, advocacy, and leadership. HDC’s 100-plus members include nonprofit housing developers, housing authorities, public funders, public and private lenders, architecture and design firms, contractors, and others. We are dedicated to the vision of a future in which: All people live with dignity in safe, healthy, and affordable homes within communities of opportunity. Advocating for housing affordability HDC advocates for local, regional, state, and federal initiatives that increase the supply of guaranteed affordable housing and related human services. We support both legislation that enhances our members’ ability to meet the housing needs of limited income people and public policies that promote the inclusion of affordable housing in market-rate developments Working in partnership for our neighborhoods HDC provides multiple opportunities for our members to work in collaboration on issues affecting affordable housing. Through educational and skill-building opportunities and peer support, HDC creates efficiencies in design, production, and asset/property management. We achieve these goals through monthly programs, special forums, and ongoing affinity groups on topics such as property management, resident services, practical design solutions, senior housing, and affordable homeownership. Meeting the community need HDC members collectively provide over 40,000 homes for low income families and individuals. King County is projected to need at least 155,000 additional affordable housing units over the next ten years. HDC members will continue to create high-quality and sustainable affordable housing throughout the county to help meet this need.
