Mission Statement

Refugee & Immigrant Transitions (RIT), formerly Refugee Transitions, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit operating in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our agency was founded in 1982 as the Refugee Women’s Program. We have expanded our services and currently provide free education, family engagement, and community leadership programs. Our students have sought refuge due to war, violence, persecution, or economic duress. Our mission is to welcome and partner with those who have sought refuge, employing strengths-based educational approaches and community supports so they may thrive in our shared communities.

About This Cause

Your support grows opportunity for nearly 2,400 people from 50 countries who have sought refuge in the U.S. You help ensure that newcomer youth graduate high school and enroll in college. You help families gain English, vocational, and other skills on their pathways to success. Together, we create more welcoming, inclusive, and resilient communities for everyone in the Bay Area. Impact: -> RIT Youth students outperform English learner peers in high school graduation. 90-100% youth leadership program alumni enroll in college. -> RIT Adult students develop the English and literacy skills to get on a path to employment, education, and citizenship.
