Mission Statement

Our mission is to support family development and to prevent child abuse and domestic violence, and to advocate for culturally competent services through education, community building, and leadership development. We strengthen families with a comprehensive set of services to prevent and treat problems that may occur as a result of stress, barriers and challenges of language, finances, and lack of resources.

About This Cause

Since 1987, APA has been serving the low- and moderate-income communities as well as immigrant families in San Francisco through: – Educational programs – Economic self-sufficiency programs – Home visits and behavioral health services for API families with intense challenges – Parenting classes, early childhood support, a multilingual hotline for parents in need – Domestic violence prevention, counseling, and support groups. Our clients are primarily monolingual and are recent immigrants. Currently we have 7 sites in 6 neighborhoods across San Francisco. We serve over 8,000 clients annually with multicultural services reflecting the diverse ethnicity in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our programs and services include: Early Literacy and Parent-Child Interactive programs; After School Youth Enrichment and Summer STEM & Reading programs; YELA (Youth Education, Leadership & Advocacy) Project, Youth Internships and Linkage to School Success program; Financial and Digital Literacy, Job Placement Assistance, ESL and One-on-one conversational English Tutoring; Parent Support Group; Parent Education classes & workshops; Parental Stress Line; Behavioral Health Services and Counseling; culturally & linguistically appropriate Home Visitation services and Enhanced Visitation. Our efforts in addressing food insecurity include running a year-round Community Food Pantry in Visitacion Valley, at the HOPE SF Sunnydale public housing site, partnering with the SF-Marin Food Bank. Over 300 are served weekly since the pandemic, of these are 100+ home deliveries of grocery boxes made to families with young children, seniors, housebound, and immunocompromised individuals. We play an active role in developing community in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood.
