About This Cause

The Eviction Defense Center [EDC] is a Nonprofit Law Corporation that was founded in 1994. The EDC's primary mission is homelessness prevention in Alameda County and parts of Contra Costa County with a focus on the elderly, disabled, single parents with young children, recent immigrants, veterans, and victims of domestic violence. The EDC defends low-income tenants who are being evicted from their homes. The EDC also handles emergency rental assistance for households affected by Covid-19. In addition, the EDC helps organize tenants in low-income, historically disenfranchised communities where there are slum conditions such as: rodents, cockroach and bedbug infestations, sewage floods, ceiling cave-ins, mold and mildew issues, inoperable heaters and stoves, and leaking pipes.
