Mission Statement

The Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the true legacy and ideals of the Black Panther Party. In operation since 1995, we commission public art and create educational tools to inspire and inform real social, economic, and political change. We are the number one source for public art, education, historical preservation, and archival collections for people seeking the truth about the Black Panther Party. We are currently developing the Dr. Huey P. Newton Center for Research & Action, an interactive museum and think tank in downtown Oakland that harnesses innovative technology to tell Black Panther Party stories and shape policy.

About This Cause

Dr. Huey P. Newton envisioned a research center that would shape the ongoing Black freedom struggle. We now have an opportunity to develop a museum that tells the Black Panther Party's story and builds cultural resiliency in the Bay Area. Through our oral history studio, virtual reality experience, and robust programming schedule, our new location in downtown Oakland will elevate the history of the Black Panther Party for an intergenerational audience, and produce new ideas as a think tank and center for collaboration. This is the first institution to centralize Black Panther archives and narratives for the purpose of making them accessible to the masses.
