MARIN HOMELESS IN ACTION
Mission Statement
The Mission of Marin Homeless in Action is to be present for people without housing by providing moral and practical support, while empowering people experiencing homelessness to speak up and take action on issues that impact them.
About This Cause
Marin Homeless in Action provides survival gear to those living outside in Marin County, including sleeping bags, bike locks, blankets, tarps, rain gear, shoes, jackets, socks, underwear and basic clothing items. Director Bob King hands out gear and makes a free phone available for urgent calls and messages from family, medical providers, and case managers every morning. In addition, Homeless in Action provides a listening ear and spiritual support network. While other organizations are task oriented and time limited, at Homeless in Action we know the people living on the streets by name, care about each person individually, and take the time to listen to what they have to say. MHIA speaks out on issues that impact people living outside in Marin County, and provides opportunities for leadership development to homeless people, giving them the chance to tell their story and share their expertise on homelessness in community. MHIA accepts people wherever they are mentally, physically and spiritually. We welcome people with few resources of their own to "come to the table" and participate in finding personal solutions to the housing crisis and their homeless status, with the support of practical items, systems advice, networking and expertise from MHIA.
