Mission Statement
Studio East creates opportunities for young people to discover, explore, and train in the performing arts.
About This Cause
Founded in 1992, Studio East Training for the Performing Arts began with one after-school musical program serving 40 middle-school students. Since then, we’ve produced 180 mainstage shows and musicals and developed a comprehensive theater program that today reaches over 65,000 annually through our 275 performances, 135 classes/camps/workshops, and 40 outreach projects at schools. From our Kirkland performance and training facility to our outreach and performance venues across the region, we deliver mainstage productions, exceptional performing arts and music instruction, theater classes and summer camps, opportunities for homeschooled children, and other outreach programs. Studio East employs 11 full-time and 7 part-time staff and 75-90 contract instructors, performers, and theater artists. Our 250 volunteers contribute 4,000 service hours annually. We at Studio East believe that training in the performing arts is training in life. Through practicing the art and craft of theater, our students learn responsibility, discipline, and focus. They explore their creativity and their humanity. They learn to rely on themselves, to work with others, and to find joy and confidence in self-expression. By exploring other lives and ideas through theater, they become more compassionate human beings. And through their exposure to and involvement in the arts, they become the artists, arts patrons and audiences of the future. Our goal is to make exposure to and training in the performing arts available and accessible for all the children in our community. We serve children from age 3 through 19 with a comprehensive array of programs designed to engage very young children in the magic of live performance, educate beginning through advanced students in all aspects of performance, and involve our community in the arts through public performances and outreach. Our programs are accessible to any student regardless of experience, financial circumstance, or special needs.
