Our mission is to utilize the USS Hornet and its collections, exhibitions, and educational programming to inspire and to promote awareness and understanding of history, science, technology, and service.

About This Cause

In October 1998, the ship was opened to the public as a museum moored at the former Naval Air Station Alameda (currently known as Alameda Point) on San Francisco Bay. She is a registered State and National Historic Landmark and is not funded by any governmental agency. The USS Hornet Museum is a timeless memorial to those who defended our American values and to those who have pursued America’s technological advancements.Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation preserves and honors the legacy of the USS Hornet, a national historic landmark, and its role in naval aviation, the defense of our country, the Apollo Program and exploration of space. The USS Hornet Museum connects the greatest generation of Americans with future generations, educating and inspiring them to meet their challenges.
