Mission Statement
The James Logan High School Forensics program is one of the largest and most critically acclaimed speech & debate programs in the country. Under the new leadership of Jesse D. Garrett & Justin Kurup, alumni of the program, JLHS Forensics continues its mission of being a life-saving, motivational, and championship caliber program for the diverse student population of Union City, CA.
About This Cause
Founded in 1989, the team has grown to become one of the largest programs in the United States. Currently the team includes over 150 students and a three-person permanent coaching staff. James Logan Forensics has won the California State Championship Tournament five times in our history. We have had over 613 of our competitors reach out rounds of competition at this tournament, over 250 of those have been state finalists, and 67 are state champions. Additionally, over 2000 of our competitors have qualified for the National Forensic League National Tournament, and of those, we have had 42 national finalists and 21 national champions. Furthermore, for the last nineteen years in a row, Logan has been the recipient of the National School of Excellence Award. The Logan Forensics Program reaches beyond competitive success. The overall academic performance of team members is a constant priority. The team makes available academic tutoring for all of its members and students must maintain a satisfactory grade point average to continue to participate in team activities. This not only ensures that students meet the mandatory GPA requirements to travel and compete with the team but re-enforces the academic rigor that this program expects from its members. As a direct result, many of these students have been able to secure forensics-related scholarships from various community service organizations. Over forty seniors graduated last year and every one of them will be pursuing degrees in higher education, attending such prestigious universities as University of San Francisco, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Brown, Stanford, and Harvard.
