Mission Statement

CEH protects people from toxic chemicals by working with communities, consumers, workers, government, and the private sector to demand and support business practices that are safe for public health and the environment.

About This Cause

We envision a world where everyone lives, works, learns and plays in a healthy environment; we protect people from toxic chemicals by working with communities, businesses, and the government to demand and support business practices that are safe for human health and the environment. Our Mission CEH protects people from toxic chemicals by working with communities, consumers, workers, government, and the private sector to demand and support business practices that are safe for public health and the environment. Our Vision We work in pursuit of a world in which all people live, work, learn, and play in healthy environments. Our Values Health and Well-being – People and their health and well-being are our ultimate concerns. Air, water, food, and consumer products should be free of dangerous and untested chemicals in order to protect people’s health. Collaboration – By working together, government, community members, non-profits, and responsible businesses can eliminate the growing threat that toxic chemicals and harmful business practices pose to families’ health. Empowerment – We reject the false assumption that we must choose between our families’ health and our economy’s health. We all prosper when businesses succeed by making safer products and innovating for safer practices. The Proper Role of Government - Decisions of government should directly promote the interests and wellbeing of people. Right to Know – Consumers, workers, and communities have the right to know (1) the chemicals to which they are exposed and (2) the health effects that can follow from these exposures. The Precautionary Principle – Manufacturers of industrial chemicals should be required to test their chemicals for safety, make that data public, and choose the alternatives that are safest for people and the environment. Social and Environmental Justice - To protect the health of all people, we must address the disproportionate health impact of toxic chemicals caused by racism and other social injustices. Healthy Economy - The true measure of an economy’s health is not how much it consumes, but rather how effectively it meets the fundamental needs of all of its people.
