Mission Statement
The San Mateo County Parks Foundation inspires people to care for, learn about and enjoy our parks. Unlike neighboring counties, San Mateo County does not have a dedicated funding source for county parks, so in 1998, the San Mateo County Parks Foundation was established to fill critical funding gaps. In partnership with the San Mateo County Parks Department, the Parks Foundation raises funds to support projects, programs, and volunteers to benefit the 24 county parks and their visitors. Our Park system offers something for everyone - from the coast to the bay - and we are committed to conserving and improving the Parks for current and future generations to enjoy.
About This Cause
At the Parks Foundation, we believe that when people connect with nature, it creates a positive ripple effect that transforms individuals, strengthens communities, and rejuvenates landscapes. We are not simply facilitating recreational experiences, we are sparking a virtuous circle that builds community and instills a respect and awe for nature. Our Impact Through donor support, we've recently: • Funded early-career internships, cultivating the next generation of environmental stewards • Installed new interpretive displays that deepen visitor understanding and appreciation • Removed invasive fire-prone plants to protect natural ecosystems • Offered Bicycle Sunday year-round, promoting healthy outdoor recreation • Placed annual park passes in every county library, ensuring access for all • Facilitated educational camping and field trips that take the learning outside into nature • Provided essential equipment and tools for rangers to effectively maintain and protect park resources This is just the tip of the iceberg of what we want and need to do! Connecting people, and especially children, to our San Mateo County Parks is an investment in the future, and an investment in today. “When I was going to ride the horse, at first, I was excited and at the same time nervous because I thought I was going to fall from the horse, but when I started to get a little confident, I wasn’t so scared anymore, I was actually feeling calm. The ride was a very exciting experience for me.” - Odalys, age 10, after her Wunderlich Park field trip "This was one of the most satisfying and impactful volunteer events I have ever done. Thank you." – Volunteer removing French Broom at Huddart Park Please join us in making a big difference for kids, adults, landscapes and wildlife alike!
